Well, it looks like my video on Turkey Fort Recreation Area is a hit. I’m getting lot of views and lots of comments. Interestingly we had not originally planned to go there. It was in the list of campgrounds in the DeSoto National Forest, but Big Biloxi had more reviews and supposedly more facilities. Boy, someone hasn’t been making the rounds of the different campgrounds. Turkey Fort really blew me away when I found the “Primitive” Tent sites with a fantastic bathroom for $7.
We actually had traveled up to Turkey Fort from Big Biloxi the first day we stayed at Big Biloxi. I was so grossed out by the bathroom and the slobs that were inhabiting the campground, I figured I should see if the other one nearby was also pretty bad. When we got there we only checked out the RV camping loop and the dump station. (The dump station at Biloxi was closed). So we were sold on going there on the way back.
My only mistake is I had set the route back to Georgia from Big Biloxi, so Google routed us south and right past it instead of going directly east on the US highways. Turkey Fort is 45minutes North of Big Biloxi. This added a hour and a half to the drive time to get to our next campground. And probably burned about 4gals of gas.
I don’t know if I mentioned it in this video, but I had a number of camera, computer, file mix ups while traveling and trying to get videos edited and posted. I did a tour of the swimming area and the boat launch at Turkey Fort that were lost in the transfer process. Both are very modern and will equipped. The Boat launch has a nice big 2 stall bathroom with a Flush toilets and a shower. Both Men’s and Women’s. The boat launch parking lot looks like it could easily handle 30 or so cars and trailers. In fact I figured if I ever go there to camp and the RV loop sites are full, I’ll just camp at the boat launch.
We also really enjoyed the trail around the lake. It has a few places where it kind of disappears with the road, but it became obvious where it left the road and became a wild trail again. The actual forest area is quite big, and there were workers in the forest doing some kind of work. I didn’t stop to see, but it seems they spend more time and effort on this area than Big Biloxi. Of course Biloxi is only 30minutes from the beaches, so that may be a factor for you! Personally, Akela and I can live without salt water or sandy beaches.
Guess this blog will be a short one. Just a few more details on the video and on Turkey Fort. It definitely gets a 10 out of 10 from me. Also, Please remember there are a lot of files on the Files page here, and recommendations of good RV equipment on the shopping page. I do not get any commissions from Amazon like so many people do. And I think it is better to buy from the manufacturer. They stand behind their products better/longer. And if you wish to donate to the channel, you can make a direct contribution on this link
Thanks for stopping by. We hope to se you on the road!
