Puppy’s First Camping Trip

I don’t know why I have such a hard time starting these blogs. I don’t do any work to actually them not more than 15 or 20 minutes of editing. I sit here at my desk and talk to my computer and it types it all out, and it’s pretty good at ignoring all the noises the dogs are making behind me. I can even talk type and get a good result while eating ice cream, which is what I’m doing now. I bought this ice cream for my brother visiting and by mistake I bought cookie dough ice cream when I thought I was buying vanilla ice cream for shortcake. But I always take a I cream container from the back of the freezer at the grocery clerk as the ones in the front are always soft, and I guess I didn’t check to make sure was the same flavor. They must’ve mixed them up! I’m not a big fan of cookie dough ice cream, so I need to eat it and get rid of it quickly. So it’s an important process to complete while also doing the blog. I hope you’ll excuse me.

So my latest video upload is “the Blue Bend Campground”. This was a small national Forest campground that had a good bathhouse and pretty nice campsites. I believe there were less than

20 actual sites and one electric site and one double electric site. There was a camp host, or maybe even two camp hosts. The camp host site seemed to have a major set up of 2 small trailers and then several tents covered over with a lot of tarps. It almost looked like a homeless encampment in the downtown big cities. But it was definitely the host campsite and the one guy that I met was pretty nice and had been there for over 12 years I believe. The campground closes and locks the gate at the entrance at 9 PM, and doesn’t unlock it until 7 AM. But the host gave me the combination as soon as I was set up on my site in case I wanted to get out for any reason, or needed to get in late. The stream adjacent to the campground looked like a very good trout stream. Although just upstream from where we were there was a huge swimming area built into the stream. Of course this was a no fishing area because they don’t want lost fishhooks all over the bottom of the swimming area. But the funny thing about fish is they tend to move up and down the stream so I’m sure any big fish in that swimming area could’ve been caught up or down from the swimming area. The camp host also told me that the campground had been packed all summer long until this particular weekend I decided to come up. Lucky for me I guess, because it’s a no reservation campground. I asked him what the change was that made it more open, and he thought it was that school started in West Virginia in the middle of August. Seems awful early to me but I guess that’s possible.

This was the puppies first camping trip. I wanted to wait until he got all his vaccinations and was pretty good about staying around and listening to me. The entire time we were camping I only put them on leash once to walk through the entire campground and tour the bathroom and shower house for the video. It’s still hard to tell what he’ll do when he sees new people, other dogs, or interesting chipmunks scurrying through the leaves. He was very good, except that he likes to walk in a figure 8 pattern through my legs, which I’m sure someday will end up with me on my face in the dirt. But he’s so damn lovable I guess it’s probably worth it. He did real well in the trailer except that it was hot and he wanted to sleep on the floor which is only partially covered in a small piece of carpet, so that linoleum is cooling. And that would not have been so bad except Dakota had the same idea. And in case you aren’t aware, an Aliner does not have enough floor space for a large dog and a puppy to be sprawled out on the floor. I think I stepped on both of them at least once. At one point in the night the puppy did jump up on my bed, a small twin bed stuffed into the back corner of the trailer. And we spent a good part of the night spooning. He’s a very good spooner. As you’ll see in the August 28th video, he did real well hiking and exploring also.

I guess I’ll push this out there and post it. It’s really time for me to go to bed, so I’ll have to publish this tomorrow after editing it and adding pictures. That means it will probably get posted at the same time as the next video comes out. That video is about the town just below the campground, White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia. A very interesting place, don’t miss the video.

Thanks for stopping by and reading all the way down to this part. Really appreciate it. I don’t know how many people actually look at this, because I had over 8000 spam users that I have now eliminated through very interesting software. It seems to have left me with just over 1000 subscribers to this blog. If those are all real people that makes me feel good about doing it. So if you can find anything to add, I’d love to see a comment from you, so I know that you’re out there. If you get a minute visit my shopping pages:  RV Essentials ,   Camera Equipment, and  RV Modifications and Accessories. All sorts of good things for camping and trailers from Amazon.  Amazon gives me a 2% cut if you buy anything. So it helps me buy toys for the puppies. 🙂

Thanks again, stay safe,

  1. I’m glad he’s a good little camper. It took my Olivia an entire summer to not jump up and bark at every squirrel, chipmunk, bird and bug that came by the campsite. She’s a pro now, but…… LOL

    1. Ha ha ha !! Akela is just now noticing bugs and squirrels. He doesn’t bark very often, just when I leave him in the house or the car while doing something outside.

  2. Glad it was a positive experience for the pup, He is so gosh darn cute, love you guys! Give Dakota a big hug. I prefer vanilla ice cream too, so many wonderful things go so well with it!!!

    1. Absolutely, on all accounts ! We are probably going back there this weekend. It was nice. Dakota had a bad day this week after getting back. He had such an EXPLOSIVE event while I was at work, all I could do was roll-up the carpet and put it out for the garbage men. He is getting pretty old and has a very sensitive digestion system. I need him around for at least another 6months for the puppy. Akela is attached to one of us all the time and he is learning to stay close and listen. He will be a great dog in time ! Good to hear from you.

  3. Yes, I read your blog and watch your videos the last 6 months and enjoy them. I will be visiting a friend of mine in WV next summer so looking forward to checking out that park. Glad everything is going great with the pups. Take care, looking forward to your next video and thanks for the Amazon tip, I buy alot there so I will check your link out.

    1. Thanks. Its always great to know SOMEONE is checking this stuff out! That campground was so nice we are probably going back this week. We may continue on up or over though, but I wanted to check out the CASS Railroad that was just about 20 miles north. Then we may head west to Kentucky. I have 5 days to burn and am going to have some ME time !! (And Dogs of course !) And I have been told that if you go to Amazon from one of my links, anything you buy after that will be a credited to me and my link. So it would still be a feather in my cap if not a penny in my pocket. I know the LOLOHO channel actually makes a couple hundred $$$ a month from people buying stuff from their link. But they also have almost 100,000 subscribers. Thanks for the comment !

  4. Loved to see you getting back to camping. Trailer repairs is a never ending cycle.

    1. I’m not sure if there is really something wrong, or if its a combination the battery was near death and the propane was low, but it smelled of propane and then it ran out. Have not tested it since, but I guess while it is down and cool I will see if the orifice needs cleaning on the frig. But yes they are, they are a rolling earthquake after all !
